Dear Family and Friends of Robert John Kazmer Welcome!
I made a DVD for the parents 50th anniversary last year. The ending song was the Long and Winding Road by the Beatles. For just a brief moment, Id like to take you down that road which Robert traveled from seeing combat as a Soldier to Grandfather of 31 children.
Robert has been married to Mira for over 50 yrs now. His singing could bring you to tears. He was an active participant in the choir. He was also a 4th degree Knight and founding member KoC St. Marys, Sullivan council. He loved to fish and always carried a tackle box and pole in the trunk of his car to get in one or 2 casts (even though he wasnt really fond of eating fish). He was an avid model train builder in his youth setting it up in Des Plaines for his children.
Robert grew up in Chicago, Son of Lydia and Walter Kazmer with brothers Walter (who died on Iwo Jima) and James. They lived a simple Catholic life, across the street from St. Wenceslaus Church where his deep and abiding faith took hold and guided him thru his life.
When he was 7 yrs old, he was hit by a car while riding a bike and fell into a coma for 5 days. Everyone tried to wake him from his coma. On the 6th day, the big gun was called in, Monsignor Czastka. Monsignor walked to his bed and commanded him in a booming voice. Robert! Robert! Wake UP! and he did. A miracle. You bet.
He attended St Wenceslaus Catholic School, stumbles High school and attended Loyola University. He decided that dentistry was not of interest to him. He switched to Coyne Electric College where he graduated and went to work for Western Electric, at that time a part of AT&T. |
